Multiplex chain PVR INOX made an exciting announcement on Thursday, revealing the transformation of Priya Cinema, one of their initial theatres in the national capital, into a cutting-edge standalone IMAX theatre. Located at Basant Lok Complex, Vasant Vihar, the revamped property will showcase a state-of-the-art laser projection and multi-channel sound system, exclusively available in IMAX theatres, promising an incredibly immersive experience.
Ajay Bijli, the Managing Director of PVR INOX Limited, expressed his pride in upgrading this iconic cinema hall.
“It was our first cinema in Vasant Vihar, and it has undergone numerous changes. However, this particular format is exceptional. It elevates the impact of big movies, creating an extremely immersive environment. For the past 33 years, we have been committed to delivering an absolutely amazing experience to our audience while doing justice to content creators,” Bijli stated enthusiastically at the event.
During the event, actor Ayushmann Khurrana, who was present to promote his upcoming film “Dream Girl 2”, shared his fond memories of watching movies at Priya.
“I have a long history with this particular property. It feels surreal to be here because I have been on many dates to this cinema. It holds a lot of nostalgia for me,” the actor reminisced.
Bijli revealed that PVR Priya now joins their impressive lineup of 20 IMAX offerings, with plans to open more in Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru, and Delhi’s Paras Cinema. He added, “In total, the company aims to introduce four to six IMAX screens in India this year.” He credited the new technology for expanding the movie viewing market through its captivating and immersive format.
Rich Gelfond, the CEO of IMAX, acknowledged India as a fast-emerging and exciting global cinema market, attributing its success to the passionate audiences it attracts.
