Insights Reveal: Amazon Prime Day 2023 Sees E-commerce Platform Selling 5 Smartphones Per Second

Amazon India has announced that the 7th edition of Prime Day was the most successful event in its history. Prime Day 2023, which took place on July 15-16, offered Prime members a wide range of great deals, new product launches, and entertainment.

According to the e-commerce platform, this year’s Prime Day saw a significant increase in Prime membership and engagement, with 14% more members shopping compared to last year’s event.

Akshay Sahi, Director of Prime and Delivery Experience at Amazon India, expressed his gratitude to sellers, brand partners, and Prime members for making this Prime Day the biggest ever in India. He mentioned that brands and sellers across various categories received an overwhelming response from Prime members in both metropolitan and Tier 2 & 3 cities and towns across India. Additionally, this Prime Day saw the highest number of same-day deliveries compared to previous events.

Amazon revealed that Prime members had the opportunity to shop from over 45,000 new products launched by popular brands such as OnePlus, iQOO, Realme NarzoWith, Samsung, Motorola, boAt, Sony, Allen Solly, Lifestyle, Titan, Fossil, Puma, Tata, Dabur, and others.

During Prime Day 2023, five smartphones were sold every second, with 70% of the demand coming from Tier 2 & 3 cities. The most popular smartphones included foldable models and newly launched devices such as OnePlus Nord 3 5G, Samsung Galaxy M34 5G, Motorola Razr 40 Series, Realme Narzo 60 Series, and iQOO Neo 7 Pro 5G.

Aditya Babbar, Senior Director of MX Business at Samsung India, expressed delight with the success of the Galaxy M34 5G, which emerged as the best-selling smartphone among the new launches on Amazon Prime Day. He highlighted the trust customers have in the Samsung brand and its commitment to groundbreaking innovation.

According to Amazon, 45% of Prime members chose to use Amazon Pay during Prime Day, with 82% of them belonging to Tier 2 and 3 cities and towns. Additionally, one in four Prime members used an Amazon Pay ICICI bank credit card for their purchases.

Amazon Business experienced a 56% increase in sales compared to Prime Day 2022. The growth was particularly strong in the Electronics, office furniture, and kitchen products and appliances categories.
