This innovative feature can currently identify popular landmarks, statues, art, plants, pets, and more. However, in iOS 17, Virtual Look Up will take it a step further by explaining certain symbols. For instance, if you come across those mysterious laundry symbols that resemble Egyptian hieroglyphics, the Photos app will provide a detailed explanation of what they mean.
This amazing Visual Look Up feature retrieves information from the Online Browsing Platform used by the International Organization for Standardization. While Visual Look Up already helps decode laundry symbols on clothing tags for safe laundering, it requires users to zoom in as close as possible for accurate results. And don’t underestimate its usefulness – Visual Look Up is not just limited to laundry assistance.

With iOS 17, the feature will even help you decipher symbols appearing on your car’s dashboard. Instead of searching for the owner’s manual, simply grab your iPhone, take a photo of the dashboard, and let Visual Look Up provide a clear explanation of what your car is trying to communicate.
