IPL 2024: ‘Baby AB’ Dewald Brevis hits Rashid Khan for no-look six in Ahmedabad

Mumbai Indians batter Dewald Brevis smashed Gujarat Titans star spinner Rashid Khan for an audacious no-look six in their opening match of IPL 2024. Brevis executed the shot on the first ball of the eighth over during Mumbai’s 169-run chase at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The 20-year-old South African has been compared with the legendary AB de Villiers due to his flamboyant 360 degree style of batting. Brevis has been with the Mumbai Indians since IPL 2022 but did not feature in the competition last season.

Brevis walked in to bat with Mumbai Indians reeling at 30 for 2, having lost the early wickets of Ishan Kishan and Naman Dhir. The South African batter stitched a 50-plus stand with former MI captain Rohit Sharma to steer his side out of trouble in their 169-run chase in Ahmedabad. The two batters added 77 runs for the third wicket before Rohit was caught LBW by R Sai Kishore in the 13th over. The former MI skipper scored 43 runs off 29 deliveries, while hitting seven boundaries and a solitary six. Brevis went on to scored 46 runs off 38 balls, while hitting two boundaries and three sixes.

The South African batter scored 161 runs in seven matches in his debut IPL season in 2022 with 49 being his highest score. Last season, he wasn’t used for even a single match but the team management decided to give him a go in MI’s opening match of IPL 2024.
