The parties involved in the alliances are Anbumani Ramadoss’ PMK, TTV Dhinakaran’s AMMK, TR Paarivendhar’s IJK, John Pandian’s Tamizhaga Makkal Munnaetra Kazhagam (TMMK), and smaller parties like Puthiya Neethi Katchi (PNK) and India Makkal Kalvi Munnaetra Kazhagam (IMKMK).
BJP has finalised seat-sharing deals with six regional parties in Tamil Nadu.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has solidified its alliances with six political parties in Tamil Nadu ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.
The parties which have entered into alliances with the BJP are Anbumani Ramadoss‘ PMK, TTV Dhinakaran’s AMMK, TR Paarivendhar’s IJK, John Pandian’s Tamizhaga Makkal Munnaetra Kazhagam (TMMK), AC Shanmugham’s Puthiya Neethi Katchi (PNK) and India Makkal Kalvi Munnaetra Kazhagam (IMKMK).
Seat-sharing arrangements have been finalised between the BJP and these parties.
Under the agreement, the PMK will contest on 10 seats, AMMK on 2 seats, while IJK, PNK/New Justice Party (NJP), TMMK, and IMKMK will contest on 1 seat each.
The BJP is yet to finalise its seat-sharing deal with GK Vaasan’s Tamil Maanila Congress Party (TMCP).
BJP Strikes Deals With AMMK, NJP and TMMK
The BJP on Wednesday finalised its seat-sharing deals with Dhinakaran’s AMMK, the New Justice Party (NJP) and the TMMK. It allotted two seats to the AMMK for the 2024 Lok Sabha election. It also allotted one seat each to the NJP and the TMMK. The leaders of the two regional parties, AC Shanmugham and John Pandian, signed the deal with state BJP chief K Annamalai on Wednesday.
Ramadoss’s PMK Seals Alliance With BJP
Anbumani Ramadoss’ PMK joined hands with the BJP earlier this week. Sources say that the decision was taken despite PMK party workers having been keen on an alliance with the ADMK.
A few weeks ago, the BJP allied with GK-Vasan-led Tamil Maanila Congress, and is in talks with the DMDK founded by late actor Vijayakanth.
The BJP-PMK alliance has left the ADMK nearly ally-less. ADMK had exited the NDA in September 2023.
Over a week ago, the BJP formed an alliance with the Indiya Jananayaka Katchi (IJK), assigning it the Perambalur Lok Sabha constituency.
Speaking to reporters after holding seat-sharing talks with Annamalai, and other senior BJP leaders, party founder Paarivendhar said, “We will be contesting from the Perambalur constituency for the third time. This time we will contest on Lotus symbol. We have also sought Kallakurichi Lok Sabha constituency. They have said they will revert back to us on this possibility.”
