JAGANNATH PURI RATH YATRA 2023: Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his warm greetings to the public on the occasion of Lord Jagannath Yatra. This annual Hindu festival is held in the holy city of Puri, Odisha. The yatra, which symbolizes the divine journey of Lord Jagannath, his brother Balabhadra, and their sister Subhadra from Jagannath Temple to Gundicha Temple, will be conducted in various parts of the country today. In a tweet accompanied by a video, PM Modi expressed his hope that the sacred occasion brings health, happiness, and spiritual enrichment to all.

Lord Jagannath Yatra, a significant Hindu festival, takes place annually in Puri, Odisha. The festival commemorates the journey of Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra, and Subhadra from Jagannath Temple to Gundicha Temple. Thousands of devotees come together to pull the chariots carrying the deities, making it a time of immense joy and celebration.

Originating in the 12th century, the Jagannath Yatra is now one of the world’s largest and most popular Hindu festivals. People from all parts of India and the world gather in Puri to participate in the festivities.

The festival commences on the second day of the waxing moon in the month of Ashadha. On this auspicious occasion, the deities are bathed in milk, water, and flowers. The following day, the chariots are pulled through the streets of Puri, adorned with flowers, flags, and banners.

The chariots are then taken to Gundicha Temple, where the deities reside for nine days. Devotees offer their prayers during this period. On the ninth day, the deities return to the Jagannath Temple, marking the culmination of the festival with grand celebrations.

Lord Jagannath Yatra brings Hindus together to celebrate their faith, fostering a sense of joy, devotion, and community.
