India suffered a heartbreaking defeat in the final of the ODI World Cup 2023, which was played against Australia in Ahmedabad on Sunday (November 19). The Rohit Sharma-led side failed to defend the total of 240 runs to go down by six wickets in the summit clash played at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Travis Head became the seventh batter in history to score a century in the ODI World Cup final, and his 137-run knock helped the Aussies seal the deal and become champions for a record-extending sixth time.

During his stay at the crease, the left-handed batter scored 15 fours and four sixes and added 192 runs for the fourth wicket with Marnus Labuschagne, who remained unbeaten on 58 runs from 110 balls.

The defeat in the final was a bitter pill to swallow for Indian players and fans, as nobody expected the team to lose in the summit clash after keeping all the opposition teams at bay in the league stage matches. India entered the final after winning 10 matches in a row, but in the title decider, nothing worked in India’s favour.

During the 28th over of the Australian innings, Bumrah took a review for LBW appeal against Labuschagne, but the Aussie batter survived due to the umpire’s call. Bumrah was not happy with the decision, and he was seen losing his cool at the end of the over.

In a video that is going viral on the internet, Bumrah can be seen knocking the bails with his cap in frustration after Labuschagne survived the scare. At that time, Australians were 157 for three.

The Men in Yellow successfully managed to chase down the target of 241 runs against India in 43 overs for the loss of only four wickets. Bumrah picked up the highest number of two wickets for India, whereas one batter each was dismissed by Mohammed Shami and Siraj.
