Triumph the Insult Comic Dog & handler Robert Smigel’s latest SAG-AFTRA/WGA strike report won us over with a great Jeff Bezos/Lex Luthor joke.

It’s gratifying to be proven right occasionally. When Triumph the Insult Comic Dog and his handler Robert Smigel (known for their work on Saturday Night Live and Late Night with Conan O’Brien) shared a video providing updates from the picket lines of SAG-AFTRA and WGA’s fight for a fair contract from AMPTP, we had hoped it would be the start of a series. Fortunately, our hopes have been realized with their second dispatch, which awaits you below. While we won’t spoil it for you, we can assure you that the Jeff Bezos/Lex Luthor line alone is worth the watch.

Now, let’s take a look at the latest updates from Triumph at the SAG-AFTRA and WGA picketing, along with a recap of their first report and the infamous “arrest incident” (in case you missed it, get ready for a lesson in pop culture history):

And here’s a look back at Triumph’s original dispatch from the picket lines:

Triumph the Insult Comic Dog Honors #HappyArrestaversary

Last June, Triumph and Smigel took to social media to commemorate the one-year anniversary of their arrest by U.S. Capitol Police after filming a segment for The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Despite initially facing charges for being in a restricted area without proper identification and escort, they were later informed that they wouldn’t be prosecuted. Triumph shares a tweet referencing when Tucker Carlson, a former “News” host, falsely equated their actions with the attempted insurrection at the U.S. Capitol on January 6th. The tweet highlights Carlson’s hypocrisy in calling President Joe Biden a “wannabe dictator” after Biden preaches about LGBTQ inclusion and acceptance.

A Look Back at The Arrest…

“On Wednesday, June 15, and Thursday, June 16, Triumph the Insult Comic Dog was on-site at the Capitol with a production team to record interviews for a comedy segment on behalf of The Late Show,” said a CBS spokesperson in a statement when news of the arrests broke in June 2022. The statement clarified that the interviews were authorized and arranged through Congressional aides. The production team was detained by Capitol Police after filming stand-ups and comedy elements in the halls. Here are some preliminary posts from Triumph’s Twitter account showing the team in Washington, D.C.:

The U.S. Capitol Police stated that the group was confronted in the Longworth House Office Building after closing hours. The individuals, lacking proper identification and Congressional escort, were charged with unlawful entry. The USCP confirmed that the incident is under active investigation and may lead to additional charges after consultation with the U.S. Attorney’s office. Triumph previously reported from Washington, D.C. in 2020 during President Trump’s impeachment trial, highlighting the restrictions placed on press access.
