Adult Swim has recently made an exciting announcement regarding its order for the half-hour animated comedy series Common Side Effects. This series comes from the brilliant minds of Mike Judge and Greg Daniels.
Adult Swim, the dominant force in the world of adult animation and the leading destination for young adults, has officially given the green light to Common Side Effects. This exciting announcement took place at the renowned Annecy International Animation Festival. The half-hour comedy series delves into the fascinating reactions caused by the revelation of a mysterious elixir of life. Common Side Effects was brilliantly created by Joe Bennett and Steve Hely, and it is executive produced by Mike Judge and Greg Daniels, the masterminds behind the iconic show King of the Hill.
Common Side Effects follows the story of Marshall and Frances, former high school lab partners. Together, they find themselves getting caught up in a conspiracy involving big pharma and the federal government. This conspiracy aims to suppress knowledge of a rare mushroom that may hold the key to curing all of mankind’s diseases. “Tonally, this series stands out from any other animated shows currently on the scene, which is why we immediately knew that Common Side Effects belongs on Adult Swim,” said Michael Ouweleen, the president of Adult Swim, Cartoon Network, and Boomerang. “Mike, Greg, and the entire team behind this show have impressive backgrounds in comedy and animation, and they will approach topics ranging from government corruption to the pharmaceutical industry with their unique and hilarious perspectives.”
“From the moment we heard the idea for Common Side Effects, we knew it perfectly embodied the tone that aligns with our animation brand,” added Suzanna Makkos, the executive vice president of original programming for Adult Swim and Max. “The series is built upon a thought-provoking concept that is entirely original and brought to life through complex, larger-than-life characters. We are excited to introduce this exceptional show to the world.”
Listed in Variety’s 2022 list of “10 Animators to Watch,” Bennett is set to debut another sci-fi animated series called “Scavengers Reign” for Max. Additionally, his animated shorts were featured on FXX’s anthology series Cake. Hely, on the other hand, served as a co-executive producer for the HBO series Veep and worked as a producer/writer for American Dad, The Office, and 30 Rock. Bandera Entertainment will handle the production of Common Side Effects, with Judge, Daniels, and Bandera president Dustin Davis serving as executive producers.
