In June 2023, Pokémon TCG Value Watch examines the market for the two Secret Rare Charizard chase cards from the Champion’s Path set.

The Pokémon TCG is a constantly evolving and unpredictable market. In the past two years, there has been a resurgence of interest in the hobby due to various factors such as the 25th Anniversary, impressive Sword & Shield-era sets with stunning Alternate Arts, influencers, box breaks, and the COVID-19 lockdown sparking a search for new hobbies. As a result, sets and cards that were once easily available became scarce. Now that the initial excitement has settled, it’s time to assess the current standing of modern sets. Each month, I will provide an installment of this series called Pokémon TCG Value Watch. Please note that this series does not offer financial advice, but aims to help collectors understand the availability of cards so that completionists like myself can make informed decisions. Today, let’s take a look at the cards from Champion’s Path, released in September 2020, and how they are performing in June 2023.

Here are the top valued cards from Pokémon TCG: Champion’s Path, based on market values observed on TCGPlayer as of now:

  1. Charizard VMAX Rainbow Rare 74/73: $184.61
  2. Shiny Charizard V 79/73: $172.76
  3. Gardevoir VMAX Rainbow Rare 76/73: $8.67
  4. Drednaw VMAX Rainbow Rare 75/73: $6.46
  5. Piers Trainer Supporter Rainbow Rare 78/73: $4.48
  6. Kabu Trainer Supporter Rainbow Rare 77/73: $3.70
  7. Alcremie VMAX 23/73: $2.93
  8. Gardevoir VMAX 17/73: $2.60
  9. Drednaw VMAX 15/73: $2.24
  10. Venusaur V 01/73: $1.70

This set primarily revolves around two cards, both featuring the iconic Fire-breathing Starter Pokémon from Kanto: Charizard. Unfortunately, this set lacks balance and offers little value beyond these Charizard chase cards. The Charizard VMAX Rainbow Rare has seen a decrease of about $9 this month, while the Shiny Charizard V has dropped by $16. These cards have experienced slight fluctuations in value throughout the year, but it is unlikely that they will undergo any significant decreases at this point, considering the set’s long availability.
