Here’s some sad news for all the Kapil Sharma fans. Less than two months after its premiere, the comedian has wrapped up his The Great Indian Kapil Show. On Thursday, Archana Puran Singh took to her Instagram stories and shared a picture of a cake from the sets of TGIKS. “Season wrap,” she wrote, leaving everyone shocked and upset.
Later, while speaking to Pinkvilla, Archana confirmed that The Great Indian Kapil Show is going off-air. “Yes, we have wrapped up the shoot of season one of TGIKS; we shot the last episode of the season yesterday,” she said and then added, “It was great fun and celebration on the sets. The journey so far on the show has been quite amazing. It was a delightful journey and we had some amazing times on the sets.”
The Great Indian Kapil Show premiered on Netflix on March 30, 2024, with Ranbir Kapoor, Neetu Kapoor and Riddhima Kapoor Sahni as guests. In the second episode, the actor-comedian welcomed cricketers Rohit Sharma and Shreyas Iyer. Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra graced the show’s third episode to promote their film, Amar Singh Chamkila. They were also joined by the director of their movie, Imtiaz Ali.
The fourth episode of Kapil’s show saw brothers Vicky and Sunny Kaushal recalling their childhood memories and making everyone go ROFL. The fifth episode, which premiered earlier this week, saw Aamir Khan as the guest.
Previously, Kapil talked about his show during a press conference when he said, “Sunil, Krushna, Kiku, Rajiv and I have been friends for a very long time and how you see us on screen, is how we are in real life. And yes, we love Archana ji – I had to say this because she’s holding my house help hostage. ‘The Great Indian Kapil Show’ is an extension of all of us in many ways and thanks to Netflix, you can watch us anytime, anywhere. Just remember, a new episode drops every Saturday.”
Meanwhile, a report by Zee Hindustan and quoted by DNA India recently claimed that Kapil Sharma allegedly charged a staggering amount of Rs 26 crore for 5 episodes of his show. That’s a little over Rs 5 crores per episode. The report added Sunil Grover, who reunited with Kapil about seven years after their fallout, is charging a shocking Rs 25 lakh per episode.
The report also claimed that Archana Puran Singh, who usually sits between the audience, is getting paid Rs 10 lakhs per episode. Meanwhile, Krushna Abhishek, Kiku Sharda, and Rajiv Thakur are being paid Rs 10 lakh, Rs 7 lakh, and Rs 6 lakh, respectively, as per the report. However, News18 Showsa couldn’t verify the claims.
