Latest Beta Update for Galaxy Z Fold 4 Introduces One UI 5.1.1 with an Extensive Range of Exciting Enhancements

Recent reports from Twitter tipster Ice Universe reveal that the much-anticipated Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 is now receiving the One UI 5.1.1 Beta. It is expected that the final and stable version of One UI 5.1.1 will come pre-installed on the Galaxy Z Fold 5 when it is released in late July or August. It’s important to note that this is not the One UI 6 Beta, which includes the first Android 14 Beta and is currently being internally tested by Samsung for the Galaxy S23 series. The Beta program for One UI 6 is expected to commence in the third week of July.

The One UI 5.1.1 update brings a range of exciting new features to the Galaxy Z Fold 4. As reported on the Samsung community site, here are some of the key changes:
  • You can now easily switch a pop-up app to split-screen view by pressing and holding the handle at the top of the pop-up window and dragging it to the desired side. Additionally, you can drag the pop-up screen off to the side and bring it back with a simple tap.
  • The S Pen on the Galaxy Z Fold 4 now has an impressive feature – when you move the S Pen over the icon of a minimized app, you’ll see a preview of what the app will look like when launched.
  • The update allows up to four recently used apps to be displayed in the taskbar. The taskbar automatically adjusts if there are seven or fewer icons, making it easier for users to access the home button, recent apps button, and back button at the bottom of the screen.
  • The One UI 5.1.1 Beta expands multi-window support in Flex Mode to more apps. In Flex Mode, users can fast-forward and rewind when watching videos, and customize the toolbar to perform functions like split-screen view and screen capture. Icons can be added, removed, reordered, or moved by long-pressing on them.
  • Flex Mode transforms the Galaxy Z Fold 4 into a mini laptop by opening the device, turning it sideways, and placing it on a desk. One side of the internal display acts as a laptop screen, while the other side serves as virtual controls.
  • Users can now change the date and time of a watermark on a photo. Flex Mode in Pro Mode has been improved, making it easier to change ISO and shutter speed when the device is folded. In capture view on the internal screen, multiple photos can be selected, shared, or deleted at once by long-pressing on them.
  • The Galaxy Z Fold 4 introduces dials to replace sliders, offering users one-handed control when adjusting filters and tonal effects. Tones and filters used in photos can also be copied and pasted into other photos. Additionally, drag and drop functionality with both hands is now available in My Files and on the home screen.
  • With the update, users can place their open Galaxy Z Fold 4 with the internal screen face down and use Wireless Power Share to charge their Galaxy Buds or Galaxy Watch while still using the cover screen as a phone.
  • A new feature reveals app cache information when the internal storage is low, helping users easily free up storage space without deleting files or apps. Excessive memory usage by certain apps can be identified and these apps can be put in a sleep state.
It’s worth noting that the One UI 5.1.1 update is currently rolling out to Galaxy Z Fold 4 models in South Korea. If you own this phone in other countries, don’t worry – Samsung will release the update for eligible versions of their Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Z Flip phones in due course.
