Lawyers: Microsoft Foresees Numerous ZeniMax Titles Releasing on PlayStation or Nintendo Platforms

Microsoft and Activision have submitted their counterarguments against the US Federal Trade Commission’s request for a preliminary injunction to halt the $68.7 billion merger.

In a report shared by Florian Mueller on Twitter, it was revealed that Xbox (Microsoft) foresees the release of “several future ZeniMax titles” on PlayStation and/or Nintendo platforms.

After acquiring ZeniMax and its subsidiaries for approximately $7.5 billion, Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer had mentioned that only “some” new titles would be exclusive to PC and Xbox consoles.

Contrary to fan assumptions that all upcoming games from ZeniMax and its subsidiaries would follow the exclusivity pattern of Tango Gameworks’ Hi-Fi Rush, Arkane Austin’s Redfall, and Bethesda Game Studios’ Starfield, the recent filing suggests the possibility of multiplatform releases.

Looking ahead, the recently surfaced Quake II remaster on South Korean rating boards could potentially be a multiplatform release. Additionally, the Indiana Jones game currently in development at MachineGames, with Todd Howard as the Executive Producer, might be aimed at a wider audience due to the involvement of Lucasfilm and Disney.

Further information about id Software’s plans may be unveiled at QuakeCon 2023, scheduled to take place in Grapevine, Texas from August 10 to 13. As for Tango Gameworks, Arkane, and Roundhouse Studios, their upcoming projects are still in early stages, making speculation difficult.

Considering Zenimax Online Studios and their focus on online titles, it is likely that their new IP will be developed for multiple platforms to maximize the user base and enable cross-play and cross-progression.

Although Microsoft may want to retain exclusivity for The Elder Scrolls VI on PC and Xbox, PlayStation fans are hopeful for its release on their platform. The fate of ZeniMax games on other consoles remains uncertain.
