Messaging App May Soon Allow Users To Hide Community Group Chats; What We Know So Far

WhatsApp gets regular limelight in the media for testing new features and introducing them in the stable build later. In this series, the company is now working on an option to hide community group chats. According to WABetaInfo, the feature was spotted in the Android ‘2.24.10.13’ beta version and is not rolling out to beta testers because it is under development.

The hidden community group chats feature comes after the development of the option to hide groups in communities on Android. WhatsApp could further improve this feature by adding the ability to know which group chats are hidden in communities. As per the screengrab shared in the report, a new icon (eye with a slanting line) will help users know which community group chats are hidden.

This will ease the identification of hidden chat for members of the community. Additionally, the company may spotlight the community to which a hidden group chat belongs on the chat info page. This icon will allow a simple marker to differentiate between hidden chats and regular ones. Plus, this will help accounts to engage in group chats without disclosing their participation to community members.

This will also allow users to focus better in important community group chats. Plus, it may let community moderators manage the visibility of a group in a better manner and let them keep sensitive and exclusive clusters out of the public view. On a related note, WhatsApp is also rolling out an option to allow users to share a reaction from the media viewer screen to a message.

Spotted in testing in the Android beta “2.24.10.7” version, the reaction shortcut next to the ‘Reply’ bar supports reaction sharing while viewing a video or image in the media viewer of WhatsApp. This can help relevant accounts save time as they will not have to move to the chat screen to share an emoji reaction. On a related note, the company is also working on an updated status update tray. You can read more on this here.
