NASA Scientist Expects July to Break Temperature Records as the Hottest Month

July 2023 is projected to be the hottest month in hundreds, if not thousands, of years, according to top NASA climatologist Gavin Schmidt.

This month has already seen daily temperature records broken, as indicated by tools that combine both ground and satellite data into models.

While there are slight differences in the data from different sources, the trend of extreme heat is clear and is expected to be confirmed by more comprehensive reports from US agencies.

Schmidt stated during a NASA briefing with reporters that “we are witnessing unprecedented changes all over the world, with extreme heatwaves breaking records in the US, Europe, and China.”

Furthermore, the cause of this extreme heat cannot be solely attributed to the recently emerged El Nino weather pattern. Schmidt explained that the overall warming, especially in the oceans, is influenced by greenhouse gases being released into the atmosphere.

The current conditions raise the likelihood of 2023 becoming the hottest year on record, with Schmidt estimating a “50-50 chance” based on his calculations. Other scientists have placed the probability as high as 80 percent.

Additionally, Schmidt predicts that 2024 will be even hotter due to an upcoming El Nino event.

These warnings from Schmidt come at a time when the world is experiencing devastating fires, health concerns, and broken temperature records.
