NBA Jam-like Robodunk slams home on Switch and PC September 25

Jollypunch Games has officially announced the release date for their highly anticipated toy-robot basketball game, Robodunk. Fans can expect it to hit both the Switch and PC platforms on September 25th, 2023.

Back in February, during the Steam Next Fest, I had the pleasure of previewing the demo for Robodunk. This over-the-top basketball game, inspired by classic titles like NBA Jam, features epic duels between teams of two toy robots. In addition to aiming for victory on the court, players can also equip their robots with weapons and perform gravity-defying dunks. It’s worth mentioning that the game’s aesthetic takes an interesting turn, with everything being made out of wood.

One exciting feature of Robodunk is its roguelite progression system. Players can push their limits and strive to progress as far as possible through different rounds of b-ball. And when they eventually come crashing back to Earth, they have the opportunity to upgrade their existing robots or hire new ones.

After publishing my preview for Robodunk, the developer of the game reached out to me to discuss my feedback. At the time, I expressed my concern that the game lacked personality despite its exaggerated nature. However, the developer assured me that there are hidden lore entries that players can discover as they play. I was surprised to learn this, as a basketball game wouldn’t typically be where I’d expect to find lore. Nevertheless, I’m intrigued to dive deeper into the game and explore these lore articles, which provide context to the fantastical dunks happening onscreen.

If you’re as eager as I am to experience Robodunk, mark your calendars for September 25th, 2023, when the game will be available on both the Switch and PC platforms. And if you can’t wait that long, there’s already a demo available on Steam for you to check out.
