NDA MPs stand in solidarity with Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar over mimicry row

Parliament Winter Session 2023, Day 17 Live Updates: The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) MPs in Rajya Sabha stood up and took part in the House proceeding on Wednesday to express their support to Chairman and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar after TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee mimicked him outside the Parliament yesterday.

Meanwhile, the vice-president said he will not tolerate any insult to Parliament and the post of vice-president while expressing deep anguish over a TMC MP mimicking him in the parliament complex. “You can insult Jagdeep Dhankar all you want but not the Vice President of India,” he said. Dhankhar said that he would not tolerate it if the dignity of his office was lowered. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also called Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar expressing great pain over the “abject theatrics” of some MPs in the Parliament complex yesterday.

The Lok Sabha Secretariat on Tuesday issued a circular barring its suspended MPs from entering into Parliament chamber, lobby and galleries. “They stand suspended from sittings of Parliamentary Committees of which they may be a member and no notice tabled by them is acceptable during the period of their suspension,” the order stated. They would also not be entitled to the daily allowance as long as their suspension continues.
