New Game Plus Mode for God of War Ragnarök Released, Introducing New Armor, Formidable Enemies, and Enhanced Features

Experience the excitement of God of War Ragnarök’s New Game+ mode, which has finally arrived. In an exciting announcement on Twitter, Santa Monica Studio, the game’s developer, revealed a substantial update that introduces new equipment, enchantments, more powerful enemies, and much more for your second journey through the Nine Realms. This highly anticipated mode becomes available once you have completed God of War Ragnarök at any difficulty level, allowing you to carry over your unlocked gear and skills to a fresh playthrough. However, it’s important to note that certain items, such as the Sonic and Hex arrows, are only accessible through specific quests in the main story.

Santa Monica Studio has listened to player feedback and is introducing the highly requested black bear cloak from the opening scene of God of War Ragnarök. This cloak boasts impressive Strength and Defense stats and offers a unique perk that rewards your skillful evades with a volley of Bifröst shards. To further enhance the immersive experience, the New Game+ run begins with your character already wearing the ‘Armor of the Black Bear,’ as the game unfolds as a single, uninterrupted tracking shot. Additionally, for the brave warriors out there, the ‘Spartan Armor’ is available, presenting a bare-chested Kratos stripped of perks and stats, offering a more challenging gameplay experience. This armor can be acquired at the Huldra Brothers’ Shop by trading Hacksilver. Fans of the 2018 God of War will be pleased to know that the Ares and Zeus armors make a return in the New Game+ mode, each offering unique bonuses such as health regeneration and increased damage output.

Players will also be able to acquire the Spartan Aspis shield, which features a narrower parry window, allowing for more precise defensive maneuvers. Additionally, a variety of color combinations can now be customized for armor level 9 and above, allowing you to personalize your character further. As expected, both Kratos and his adversaries will be more formidable in the New Game+ mode, as the level cap has increased. Furthermore, all earned weapons can now be upgraded to their ‘Plus’ versions, granting even stronger effects. These upgrades also reward players with Gilded Coins that can be used to acquire new enchantments from in-game shops. Enchantments are a crucial aspect of gameplay, providing special perks to your armor set and giving you the upper hand in battle. Among the new enchantments is the ‘Burdens’ set, which grants the option to equip negative perks for a more challenging experience. For instance, the Burden of evasion slows down Kratos and activates a Frost status effect upon dodge rolling.

The sparring arena in Niflheim has also undergone expansion, allowing players to assume the roles of Kratos or Atreus and choose from a variety of companion characters, including Freya, Brok, Sindri, Angrboda, Ingrid, Thor, and Thrúd. To further enhance the cinematic experience, a black-and-white render mode has been added, reminiscent of Ghost of Tsushima’s Samurai Cinema mode. This new mode can be found in the Graphics & Camera settings menu, as detailed in the official PlayStation blog post. The New Game+ mode also offers the option to skip cinematics, and Nornir Chests now provide Yggdrasil Dew, enabling powerful stat upgrades.

God of War Ragnarök has received numerous accolades, including six trophies at The Game Awards 2022 and another six at the BAFTA Games Awards. To give players a taste of the game’s incredible gameplay and storytelling, a three-hour free trial is available to members of the PS Plus Deluxe/Premium subscription. This trial period provides ample time to delve into the world of God of War Ragnarök and make an informed decision about purchasing the full game, with all progress and trophies carrying over.

Don’t miss out on the thrilling New Game+ mode of God of War Ragnarök, now available on both PS4 and PS5.
