New Google Pixel 8 Series to Feature Enhanced Battery Size and Rapid Charging

Over the last few weeks, we’ve discovered most of the exciting features that will be included in the upcoming Google Pixel 8 series. From the improved Tensor G3 processor to the enhanced camera system, brand-new displays, USB DisplayPort alternate mode support, and even new wallpapers, there’s a lot to look forward to. However, there’s more to the Pixel 8 specs and other interesting details that we haven’t covered yet.

Thanks to a trustworthy source within Google, we can now share some of the remaining unknowns about the Pixel 8 series. One area that has been a point of criticism for Pixels in the past is their charging speeds. While Chinese manufacturers have been pushing boundaries with ridiculously high power levels (reaching up to 240W), and even companies like Samsung have introduced faster charging on premium Android phones, Google has stuck with a relatively modest 23W, but only for the Pro model.

Unfortunately, Google has not made significant improvements in charging speeds with the Pixel 8 series. However, there is a small upgrade. Both the regular Pixel 8 and the Pixel 8 Pro now support 24W and 27W charging, respectively, which is a 4W increase from their predecessors.

Speaking of charging, wireless charging remains unchanged. Based on current information, it seems that Google has maintained the 20W and 23W wireless charging support from the Pixel 7 series. However, there have been slight changes in battery capacities. The Pixel 8 now features a larger 4,485mAh battery compared to the previous 4,270mAh one, while the Pixel 8 Pro has a 4,950mAh battery, up from 4,926mAh on the Pixel 7 Pro.

Moving on to connectivity, Google has partnered with Broadcom for Wi-Fi/Bluetooth combo chips since the Pixel 6 series. The Pixel 6 introduced the flagship-grade BCM4389 chip, which supported Wi-Fi 6E. The Pixel 7 continued to use the same component. However, Google is upgrading the chip to BCM4398, which supports Wi-Fi 7, for both the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. Wi-Fi 7 builds upon the improved speeds and reliability of Wi-Fi 6E while remaining compatible with older standards. Although the standard hasn’t been finalized, early implementations are already supported by commercial products.

Ultra-wideband (UWB) technology, which enables precise distance measurement between devices, remains exclusive to the Pixel 8 Pro. Google first introduced this feature in the Pixel 6 Pro and continued it with the Pixel 7 Pro. However, the smaller Pixel 8 does not include UWB support. This is disappointing considering that Google is developing features that utilize UWB, such as a rumored first-party UWB-enabled AirTag alternative and seamless media playback transfer to a docked Pixel Tablet.

In terms of availability, Google Pixel devices are limited compared to other manufacturers. The Pixel series is officially available in only 17 countries, with even fewer options for certain devices like the Pixel Fold. This is in stark contrast to Apple, which distributes its devices in approximately 139 countries. However, based on Google’s language availability, it can be speculated that the Pixel 8 series may have additional official distribution in countries such as Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, and Portugal. While this is a step in the right direction, it’s still a relatively low number, and hopefully, Google will expand its distribution in the future.

In conclusion, we’ve provided an exclusive look at the Pixel 8 series, but there may still be more surprises to come. The phones are set to offer exciting upgrades, and we can’t wait to see what Google has in store for us. Share your thoughts in the comments below!
