Production Started
Yes! Finally, some reliable sources have confirmed that Mahindra has commenced the production of the new Thar 5-door. The SUV will be manufactured at Mahindra’s Chakan Plant with monthly production capacity of 5,000 to 6,000 units. It is also said that dealers have unofficially started accepting the bookings which also clears the fact of early launch. That said, it will be exciting to see the response Thar Armada achieves! As of now, its smaller version, the Thar, is selling with a monthly average of around 5,500 units. Additionally, it has a long waiting period of 9 to 10 months for its best selling – RWD variants! So overall, it will be interesting to see how Mahindra manages the sale of Thar Armada if it receives a similar response.

Mahindra Thar Armada Launch & Pricing
So with the news of production and unofficial bookings, we can confirm that the launch is near. Still, we highly expect that Mahindra could launch the Thar Armada on 15th of August 2024. Talking about the pricing, the starting price of the Thar Armada could be near Rs 15 lakh (on-road, Mumbai) for the RWD variants. Whereas the fully equipped top of the line variant with 4X4 could max out around Rs 30 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).

Mahindra Thar Armada Launch – What Else?
Rest, we have already discussed the new Thar multiple times. The exterior design will borrow the design cues of the 3-door Thar but could feature automatic LED headlamps. Yes, it will be longer than 3-door Thar to enhance the space for rear passengers. Things will likely remain the same on the inside as well. However, it might get multiple interior colour theme options! Feature-wise, expect the Thar Armada to get – 10.25-inch touchscreen system, 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless phone charger, Level-2 ADAS, panoramic sunroof, and a few more.

Talking about the engine options, the Thar Armada is said to borrow engines from the 3-door Thar and the Scorpio-N. The RWD vraiants of the Thar Armada could be powered by the smaller Thar’s 1.5-litre (117bhp / 300Nm) diesel engine. Whereas the 4X4 variants could get 2.2-litre (172bhp / 400Nm) diesel engine and 2.0-litre (200bhp / 380Nm) petrol engine. Transmission options for all these engines could include both – manual and torque converter automatic gearboxes.
