New Release Date for The Last of Us Part I PC Port Delayed by Three Weeks, Set for Arrival on March 28

The PC port of The Last of Us Part I has been delayed by three weeks. Developer Naughty Dog confirmed in a tweet that the highly anticipated emotional, zombie-killing survival game, originally scheduled for release on March 3, will now be available on March 28. The studio explained that the delay is necessary to ensure a polished and bug-free experience at launch. It was partly influenced by the success of HBO’s adaptation of The Last of Us, as Naughty Dog wants to maintain its reputation by delivering a high-quality port.

In an open letter, Naughty Dog expressed their gratitude for the overwhelming love and support received for The Last of Us, including praise for the HBO adaptation and stunning Photo Mode shots. They emphasized their commitment to delivering the best possible experience for the PC debut of The Last of Us Part I, taking a few extra weeks to meet the expectations of fans and themselves.

The developer has not yet revealed the system requirements and new PC-specific features that will enhance the game compared to the PS5 version released in September of last year, which offered improved graphics and loading times.

The Last of Us Part I PS5 Review: Absolutely Gorgeous, but Overpriced

However, based on the consistent quality of previous PlayStation–PC ports, players can expect unlocked framerates, support for ultra-wide monitors, and other technical benefits optimized for various graphics cards. The storyline remains the same as the original 2013 version, following a hardened survivor named Joel as he escorts a teenager named Ellie across a post-pandemic US filled with infected mutants. Their journey involves navigating grief, encountering eccentric survivors, and gradually forming a father-daughter relationship that brings hope to Joel’s troubled mind.

During the marketing campaign for the PS5 launch, Sony emphasized that The Last of Us Part I was a from-the-ground-up remake. Despite this, fans considered the price tag of ₹4,999/ $70 to be high, especially for those who had played previous versions. With the original 2013 Last of Us, the PS4 remaster, and now the remake, Naughty Dog created a game so impressive that it warranted touch-ups and a re-release. The Last of Us Part I not only enhanced its visuals but also upgraded the AI of enemies to resemble those in the highly acclaimed sequel, The Last of Us Part II. The game also introduced a permadeath mode for hardcore gamers and over 60 accessibility features designed for players with visual, auditory, or motor impairments.

To commemorate the debut of the HBO series, The Last of Us Part I was made available as a two-hour free trial for PS Plus Deluxe/ Premium members. This allowed players to test the upgrades and make an informed decision about purchasing the full game. The price of a PS Plus Deluxe subscription is ₹849 per month. Additionally, HBO has renewed The Last of Us series for a second season, which will cover the events of The Last of Us Part II game.

The Last of Us Part I will be released on PC on March 28. Pre-orders are now open on Steam and the Epic Games Store for ₹3,999.
