New video explores the upgraded glyph interface of Nothing Phone 2

Nothing is enhancing its renowned Glyph interface for its upcoming Phone 2 smartphone, set to be officially announced on July 11th. The popular YouTuber Marques Brownlee has released an early hands-on video showcasing the new smartphone and providing a comprehensive overview of the flashing light interface on the phone’s back. Furthermore, he highlights the improvements that Nothing has made to the interface compared to last year’s Phone 1.

Although the Glyph interface maintains a similar pattern, it now includes a greater number of LED lighting zones, resulting in enhanced control over the phone’s lighting effects. The Phone 2 comprises 33 zones, nearly triple the amount found on the Phone 1, which had 12 zones.

The increased number of zones enables the phone to display various indicators, such as volume level or timer progress, within the curved light strip situated on the upper right side of the phone’s back. Furthermore, Nothing intends to allow third-party apps to utilize this light strip as a progress bar, with support already secured from Uber and Indian restaurant app Zomato. While the strips themselves have been divided into more sections, the overall layout remains similar to the previous model.

Another exciting addition is the ability to designate an “essential app” and have its notifications illuminate the top right light strip on the back of the phone. This means users can choose to receive illumination for WhatsApp notifications, while disabling it for Gmail or Instagram.

The Phone 2 retains the same essential design language seen in its predecessor, with a few minor adjustments. The non-white variant has a more grayish hue instead of a black color, and Brownlee mentions that its back has a slightly more rounded shape this time. For those interested in the white version, Nothing has showcased it in a captivating promotional image available on its website, which we have included below.

Brownlee’s video adds valuable insights to the plethora of information Nothing has already disclosed about its Phone 2 in recent weeks. Noteworthy details include the inclusion of a transparent USB-C cable, 3 years of Android updates, 4 years of security updates, and the utilization of a Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 processor. Importantly, the Phone 2 will be available in the US, unlike its predecessor. For a comprehensive list of Nothing’s Phone 2 announcements, please refer to our Phone 2 stream.
