Next Major Update in Final Fantasy XIV Empowers Fashion Enthusiasts

Square Enix held its highly anticipated Fan Fest for the popular MMORPG, Final Fantasy XIV, today. The event showcased numerous updates and exciting additions coming to the game. While the announcement of a new expansion and platform generated considerable excitement, one seemingly minor update received a surprisingly enthusiastic response from the XIV community: the addition of two dyes per gear piece.

On the surface, this may appear trivial to those less familiar with Final Fantasy XIV. However, for fashion enthusiasts within the game, this enhancement is a significant development. The revelation that the endgame of Final Fantasy XIV revolves around fashion, rather than high-level raids or achievements, is no secret. The fashion-conscious player base, which encompasses virtually everyone, eagerly awaits new content, and the recent Fan Fest did not disappoint in this regard.

For the uninitiated, Final Fantasy XIV features a transmog system known as Glamour, or glam for short. This tool allows players to customize the appearance of their gear by layering one cosmetic item over another. Think of it as wearing a sweater over a shirt. While the actual stats are determined by the underlying “shirt,” the outward appearance is determined by the “sweater.” These glam items can be applied to armor pieces and saved as presets, essentially granting players an extensive fashion collection at their fingertips. Furthermore, these glam pieces can be dyed to modify their color and, in some cases, their material aesthetic.

Elevating Fashion with Two Dyes

The introduction of two dyes per gear piece allows fashion enthusiasts to explore even greater possibilities for color customization. The Eorzean Collection, an online showcase for talented designers within the Final Fantasy XIV community, provides ample evidence to demonstrate what can be achieved with the existing tools. With the addition of another dye channel, the potential for creativity and expression becomes limitless. The anticipation for this feature is palpable.

But that’s not all. Another notable update revealed at the Fan Fest is the separation of glasses and headgear. This means players can now wear both a hat and glasses simultaneously, further expanding their fashion options. These enhancements will be released alongside Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail, the newly announced expansion.

Even the graphical update itself is cause for celebration among fashion enthusiasts. Existing clothing items will receive a visual overhaul with improved textures and graphics. Final Fantasy XIV’s director and producer, Naoki Yoshida, announced that the development team is meticulously revisiting content from the game’s inception in version 2.0, ensuring that players can enjoy a revitalized and visually stunning fashion experience.

Arena for Fashion Enthusiasts

The benefits of the graphical update extend to fans of GPose as well. GPose is an in-game group pose tool that players use to capture stunning snapshots of their characters. With the improved graphics and more detailed scenery, players will have an even wider range of scenic backdrops to choose from, enhancing their photography experiences.

To outsiders, the excitement surrounding the addition of more dyes in Final Fantasy XIV may seem peculiar. However, this passion for fashion is not unique to XIV but remains a prevalent trend in most RPGs, including popular titles like Elden Ring and Destiny 2. The ability to personalize characters with an array of color choices and the newfound flexibility for glasses is a dream come true for players who enjoy designing and dressing up their avatars. While new jobs, dungeons, and raids are undoubtedly thrilling, the inclusion of two dyes is a major victory for Final Fantasy XIV’s fashion fanatics.
