TL;DR

  • Telegram founder Paul Du Rove announced the upcoming addition of Stories to the platform.
  • The Stories feature is currently being tested and will be launched in early July.

Once exclusive to Snapchat, Stories have become a popular feature on various platforms. Despite its popularity, Telegram initially resisted incorporating Stories into its messaging service. However, the company has now changed its stance.

In a blog post, Telegram founder Paul Du Rove revealed that Stories will soon be introduced to the platform. He stated that Stories had been highly requested by users, with more than half of the feature requests received being related to Stories.

Du Rove outlined six key aspects that the Telegram team is working on to optimize the Stories feature:

  • Privacy: Users can customize the visibility of each story, choosing options such as Everyone, only contacts (with exceptions), selected contacts, or Close Friends list.
  • Compact UI: Stories will be displayed in an expandable section at the top of the chat list.
  • Flexibility: Users have the option to hide Stories posted by any contact, which will be moved to the ‘Hidden’ list in the Contacts section instead of the main screen.
  • Captions: Users can utilize photo and video editing tools, add captions or links, and tag other individuals.
  • Dual camera support: The feature will allow posting photos and videos taken simultaneously with the front and rear cameras.
  • Optional
