Nickelodeon to Feature Original 1987 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Series

In an exciting development, Nickelodeon has recently obtained the rights to the highly cherished 1987 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series. This means that the network now has ownership of all 193 episodes of the original animated Fred Wolf series, which captivated audiences from 1987 to 1996.

The story revolves around the adventures and battles of the four Turtle brothers – Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael, and Michelangelo – as they confront various villains like the Shredder, Krang, and other criminals, on the action-packed streets of New York.

Fans of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles can anticipate the digital debut of the series later this month in the United States, followed by its availability on Nickelodeon branded channels and digital platforms worldwide.

During the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem panel at SDCC 2023, the revelation of Nickelodeon’s acquisition took place. TMNT co-creator Kevin Eastman expressed his delight, stating that the style of Mutant Mayhem reminded him of the underground vibe of the comics that he and Peter Laird had originally created. Impressed by the footage he saw, Eastman couldn’t help but inquire about the possibility of a sequel.

In addition to this news, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem SDCC 2023 panel featured an exclusive glimpse into the upcoming CG-animated film, courtesy of Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon. IGN had the privilege of viewing over 20 minutes of never-before-seen footage. To provide a taste of what was shown, we’ve included a snippet called ‘Sneaking In’ below:
