Ninja Theory, Developer of Hellblade, Acquired by Xbox for $117 Million

Microsoft has made a significant acquisition, securing Ninja Theory for a total of $117 million, as revealed in recent FTC filings. The ongoing FTC v. Microsoft case has shed light on Microsoft’s intentions for potential acquisitions.

The FTC filings have provided insight into internal Microsoft emails discussing potential studios and publishers for acquisitions, including Bungie and Sega. Within an internal email outlining the pitch to acquire Sega, a list of “precedent transactions” was included on page 10. It referenced various previous acquisitions by companies such as Sony, Microsoft, and Electronic Arts.

The list featured Ninja Theory, which was acquired for $117 million. The email also mentioned the public announcement of the acquisition on June 10, 2018. This announcement coincided with Microsoft’s revelation at E3 2018 that it had also acquired Turn 10, Playground Games, Compulsion Games, and Undead Labs.

Ninja Theory’s highly anticipated game, Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2, is scheduled for release in 2024.
