Nintendo reveals the 10 best-selling Switch games of all time

In its latest earnings report, Nintendo revealed that it has sold more than 1 billion games for the Switch console since its launch on March 3, 2017. Along with this announcement, Nintendo updated its list of top-selling Switch games, and there have been some interesting changes in the top 10 in recent months.

According to Nintendo, the most popular Switch game is still Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, with over 55 million units sold as of June 30. In the past three months alone, Nintendo has sold 1.67 million copies of this game, which is remarkable considering it is a remaster of a nine-year-old Wii U game.

The top five best-selling games also include Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and Super Mario Odyssey. Pokémon Sword and Shield rank sixth, followed closely by Pokémon Scarlet and Violet at number seven. Despite receiving mixed reviews, the latest mainline Pokémon games have still been successful.

The newest addition to the top 10 is Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, which was released on May 12 to critical acclaim and caused a frenzy on social media platforms like TikTok. I predict it will climb higher on the list in the next quarter.

Here is the updated list of the best-selling Nintendo Switch games based on units sold as of June 30:

  1. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe | 55.46 million
  2. Animal Crossing: New Horizons | 42.79 million
  3. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate | 31.77 million
  4. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild | 30.65 million
  5. Super Mario Odyssey | 26.44 million
  6. Pokémon Sword/Pokémon Shield | 25.92 million
  7. Pokémon Scarlet/Pokémon Violet | 22.66 million
  8. Super Mario Party | 19.39 million
  9. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom | 18.51 million
  10. New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe | 16.17 million

Rumors are circulating about a new Nintendo console arriving in 2024, which could mean that Tears of the Kingdom is the last new Switch game to make this list. The next 2D Mario game, Super Mario Bros. Wonder, may have a chance when it launches on October 20.
