Nintendo Switch announces the release of Rose & Camellia Collection

Unleashing my Inner Alexis Carrington Colby

During Limited Run Games’ recent livestream, there were some intriguing announcements for Game Boy Advance enthusiasts and fans of the classic game Gex. I planned to ignore these announcements, as my backlog is already filled with old games that Limited Run Games has brought back to life. However, they managed to grab my attention with the showcasing of the Rose & Camellia collection.

For those who might not know or may have forgotten, Rose & Camellia is a wonderfully absurd flash game where you must assert dominance by smacking your opponents. I remember playing this game one night at work, completely captivated by its outrageousness. Little did I know, it received an official sequel and later collaborated with La-Mulana. Now, Limited Run Games, Nigoro, and WayForward are bringing together all three original games, along with two new sequels, in the Rose & Camellia Collection.

With a total of five games and over 30 characters, you can expect your hands to feel sore after slapping your way to the top of the household hierarchy. What excites me the most are the motion controls. It just wouldn’t feel right if you were simply pressing buttons or flicking a control stick to execute a powerful slap. This is genuinely the first time in a while that I’ve been thrilled about motion controls in a Switch game, aside from the recent reveal of WarioWare Move It!.

Overall, this collection looks like an absolute blast, and I’m grateful that a small fragment of my past, even if it was just for one night, is making its way back into my life through this port. The Rose & Camellia Collection is set to launch in late 2023 or early 2024 for the Nintendo Switch.

Oh, and one more thing, it features two-player local versus mode. So instead of settling your disputes in Smash, you can settle them with slaps.
