Raigarh police officials have initiated legal proceedings against five individuals in the case of Bollywood art director Nitin Desai’s suicide. Nitin’s wife, Neha Desai, filed a complaint that led to the registration of an FIR. According to a report by news agency ANI, the police have filed charges under Sections 306 (abetment to suicide) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against five people, including officials from ECL Finance Company and Edelweiss. Nitin Desai’s company had failed to repay a loan of Rs 250 crore to its creditors.
According to another report by ANI, Neha Desai informed the police that Nitin Desai took his own life due to immense mental pressure from the officials of ECL Finance Company and Edelweiss Group regarding debt recovery.

The funeral of the late art director, Nitin Desai, took place today at his studios in Karjat. It was attended by several prominent figures from the Hindi and Marathi film industries, including Aamir Khan, Ashutosh Gowarikar, and Sonali Kulkarni, among others.

“We express our deepest condolences to the family of Shri Nitin Desai during this difficult time. In relation to this development, on July 25, 2023, the NCLT’s Mumbai bench ordered the initiation of the Corporate Insolvency Resolution Process against Nitin Desai’s company, ND’s Art World Private Limited. The bench also appointed Jitender Kothari as the interim resolution professional to carry out the necessary steps under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016,” the statement reads.
The company also stated its commitment to fully cooperate with the relevant authorities. “We prioritize transparency, cooperation, and adherence to the legal process,” they added.
