Nuh violence: Multiple old images viral in connection with clashes in Haryana

Multiple images depicting clashes between two groups in Haryana’s Muslim-dominated Nuh district during Vishwa Hindu Parishad’s Brij Mandal Jalabhishek Yatra on July 31 are making rounds on social media. Users are sharing these images, urging Hindus to protest against “jihadi traitors.” The images have gained significant attention, with verified user @ChandanSharmaG expressing his dismay over the condition of Hindus in India. The tweet has garnered thousands of likes and retweets. Verified account @BiharwaleSir also shared the same images with a similar caption. Several users on Facebook have also shared these images.

Upon fact-checking, it has been found that one of the images is from a violent incident related to Dera chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh’s conviction in 2017. Another image is from a nationwide strike called by trade unions in 2013. The third image is from clashes during an anti-Citizenship Amendment Act protest in Kanpur in 2019, and the fourth image is also from the same protest.

It is evident that these old pictures are being shared on social media with false claims linking them to the recent violence in Haryana’s Nuh district.
