This article reveals the highly sought-after Charizard ex card from the Pokémon TCG: Obsidian Flames. This particular card features a unique Dark-type Tera version of the legendary fire-breathing Pokémon.

The Pokémon TCG has unveiled the Special Illustration Rare card for Charizard ex, which will undoubtedly be the most coveted card in the Scarlet & Violet – Obsidian Flames expansion. This is the first Tera ex card to receive the Special Illustration Rare treatment, and it showcases the stunning artistic style of AKIRA EGAWA. EGAWA has made a bold entrance into the Pokémon TCG scene, with their unique art style standing out in the short time they have been contributing to the game. The artist’s debut was in the Sun & Moon – Unified Minds set.

The Pokémon TCG describes the Scarlet & Violet – Obsidian Flames expansion as follows:

Red-hot embers illuminate the pitch-black night and sparks flare into an inferno as Charizard ex surges forth with newfound powers of darkness! The glittering Terastal phenomenon imbues some Pokémon ex like Tyranitar, Eiscue, and Vespiquen with different types than usual, while Dragonite ex and Greedent ex show mastery of their own inner strengths. Not to be outdone, Revavroom ex, Melmetal ex, and more Pokémon promise to change the course of battle in the Scarlet & Violet—Obsidian Flames expansion!

To get a glimpse of what’s to come in this Charizard-themed set, you can follow our series on Japan’s Ruler of the Black Flame, which serves as the source material for Scarlet & Violet – Obsidian Flames. Ruler of the Black Flame will be released on July 28th and will feature 108 cards (excluding Secret Rare cards). This expansion will introduce Tera Pokémon, which possess a Tera type that differs from their standard typing. This unique feature will be prominently showcased on the Dark-type Tera Charizard ex card, as well as the Fire-type Tera Eiscue ex and Electric-type Tera Tyranitar ex cards. It’s expected that Ruler of the Black Flame will synergize with the cards from the upcoming Japanese ex Starter Decks, as well as leftover cards from other Japanese sets released this year.
