Overwatch 2’s Battle for Olympus Event Is Now Live, Heroes Fashioned After Greek Myth

The limited-time event, Battle for Olympus, has arrived in Overwatch 2. This latest update brings a new seasonal mode that features a free-for-all deathmatch game with seven select Heroes transformed into Greek gods, goddesses, and creatures. Blizzard Entertainment previously released a trailer teasing the new god-like abilities that augment your champions’ ultimates. The studio has now shared patch notes detailing each ability, along with a global leaderboard that immortalizes a hero with an in-game statue. The event will run until January 19.

It’s important to note that Battle for Olympus is essentially the standard Overwatch 2 deathmatch mode with a Greek mythology theme. The new effects are exclusive to this mode, while quick play and competitive segments will continue with the Heroes’ normal kits. The seven playable heroes in this game mode are Junker Queen, Lucio, Pharah, Ramattra, Reinhardt, Roadhog, and Widowmaker. These heroes are equipped with “Divine” ultimates that last longer than standard ones and introduce changes to their regular movesets. Each character is based on an appropriate Greek legend, and their corresponding skins can be purchased using coins earned from completing weekly challenges. As with previous seasonal events, you can access Battle for Olympus in the Arcade section.

For example, in the role of Hermes, Lúcio gains numerous advantages thanks to his speed. His Divine Sound Barrier ultimate lasts for 20 seconds, granting him infinite ammunition, the ability to jump again after wall-riding, and increased attack and movement speed. Additionally, his Boop action deals extra damage and briefly stuns enemies if they collide with a wall. However, these abilities only benefit Lúcio in the deathmatch mode. Widowmaker, inspired by the snake-headed Medusa, can turn enemies to stone when scoped in. This aligns with the abilities of the Greek Gorgo, who petrifies those who gaze into her eyes. Widowmaker’s ultimate encourages a high-risk, high-reward playstyle, urging players to attract enemies’ attention to their vantage point.

Essentially, Battle for Olympus offers a God Mode experience in Overwatch 2, with all powers derived from Greek mythology. Reinhardt, as Minotaur, possesses a Divine ultimate that also lasts for 20 seconds. It allows him to heal whenever he slams or charges into an enemy against a wall. He can now pin up to three opponents simultaneously, with wall slams inflicting additional damage and reducing the next charge cooldown to a mere 0.5 seconds, a significantly overpowered ability. Zeus-inspired Junker Queen wields Divine Rampage, causing her Scattergun damage to potentially apply additional lightning damage to her abilities. Moreover, the new tank hero, Ramattra, possesses Poseidon’s boon in the form of the Ravenous Vortex, a large whirlpool that draws in enemies and launches them into the air. Additionally, Ramattra can unleash powerful water blasts that deal substantial damage.

Roadhog, fashioned after Cyclops, only has one eye in the mode. His 15-second-long Divine Roadhog ability significantly enhances his physique, granting him an additional 600 health points. He gains the ability to hurl boulders instead of his normal ultimate fire. Moreover, his melee attacks deal five times more damage and push enemies away with each strike. Lastly, Hades Pharah gains mobility during her Rocket Barrage, making her less vulnerable to stunning or being killed while performing the animation. Furthermore, each kill heals Pharah and extends the Divine ultimate’s duration during the 20-second period.

The hero with the highest number of eliminations at the end of the Battle for Olympus event will be commemorated with a statue on the Illios Ruins map. Overwatch 2 now features special challenges that unlock thematic voice lines, player titles, and new cosmetics available for purchase using Overwatch Coins. There is also a checkpoint-based challenge that rewards the Legendary Winged Victory Mercy skin.

Don’t miss out on Overwatch 2’s Battle for Olympus event, which is available until January 19 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X.
