Pete Hines of Bethesda Claims Starfield’s Release Would Have Been Even More Delayed on PlayStation 5

According to a recent statement from Pete Hines, Bethesda’s senior vice president of global marketing and communications, Starfield would have faced further delays if it were also releasing on PlayStation 5.

During the trials involving Microsoft, Activision Blizzard, and the Federal Trade Commission, Pete Hines discussed the development of Xbox console exclusives like Redfall and Starfield. He explained that it is easier to ensure quality when a game is released on fewer platforms, as it allows for more rounds of quality assurance testing. Specifically referring to Starfield, Hines stated that the game would not be ready in nine weeks if it had to support another platform, in this case, the PlayStation 5.

Considering what Bethesda showcased of Starfield earlier this month during the Xbox Showcase, it is not surprising that the game would require extensive testing on all platforms if it were also coming to PlayStation 5. The vast game world and numerous planets available in Starfield necessitate thorough testing.

Starfield will be launching worldwide on September 6th for PC, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S. However, those who purchase the game’s Premium and Constellation Editions will have access starting from September 1st.
