PlayStation 5 Pre-Orders to Go Live in India on February 22: Restock Announced

Sony is preparing for another PS5 restock this month. The company has officially announced that the next wave of pre-orders for the current-generation PlayStation console in India will go live on Wednesday, February 22, at 12pm. Pre-bookings will be available for both bundles and standalone units, specifically the 4K Blu-ray disc drive-equipped versions. This is the second PS5 restock this month, which is a rare occurrence since the console’s initial launch in India. The global chip shortage caused by the COVID-19 pandemic has made it difficult to acquire a PS5, but now there is hope for improvement.

At CES 2023 earlier this year, PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan stated that gamers should have an “easier time” finding a PS5 from local retailers. While the impact on the Indian market was uncertain at the time, many brick-and-mortar stores and even the Mumbai Comic-Con event had an ample stock of consoles and accessories available for purchase. According to games analyst Rishi Alwani, there is even a dedicated PS5 booth at the India Gaming Show, where Riot Games, the creators of League of Legends and Valorant, are also present. The event takes place at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, and runs until February 18.

Regarding the February 22 restock, pre-order banners and advertisements are not yet visible on online storefronts. However, the press release mentioned that the new stock of PS5s will be available for pre-order on Amazon, Croma, Flipkart, GamesTheShop, Reliance Digital, ShopatSC, and Vijay Sales.

In November, PS5 prices increased, with the disc-equipped variant now priced at Rs. 54,990 and the Digital Edition at Rs. 44,990. These prices reflect a 12.5% and 10% increase, respectively. In a blog post in August of last year, Sony attributed the price hike in select markets, including Asia-Pacific, to the global economic environment and high inflation rates.

Currently, the Sony Center PS5 store page allows users to enter their contact details to be notified when stocks are available. The delivery details have not been updated since the last restock, which mentioned that orders should start shipping out by February 21. The page also warns of possible delays depending on lockdown or curfew restrictions in certain regions. Recent purchase options have been limited, but earlier this month, Sony India offered two alternatives: a God of War Ragnarök bundle priced at Rs. 59,390, and a standalone disc-equipped unit priced at Rs. 54,990.
