Sony’s recently-acquired studio, Firesprite, has expanded and opened a new studio in Liverpool. The studio now boasts a team of over 250 people.
In 2021, Sony added Housemarque and Nixxes to its first-party studios and also purchased Firesprite, the spiritual successor to Wipeout creator Psygnosis. PlayStation Studios boss Hermen Hulst expressed that Firesprite would lead the development of multiple game projects, emphasizing their role in creating exclusive games for PlayStation Studios.
Last year, a job ad from Firesprite hinted at the studio working on an “AAA narrative-driven horror-adventure game in Unreal 5”. There are also rumors circulating about Firesprite’s involvement in the development of a new Twisted Metal game.
Firesprite, founded in 2012, has experienced significant growth over the years. The studio has now announced that it has moved to a brand-new space in the city center of Liverpool. The new studio is located in a historically significant building, previously serving as a library, maritime business, museum, and newsroom. The studio expressed excitement about the move, stating that it aligns with their vision of becoming a creative powerhouse within the PlayStation Studios family.

“This year, we celebrated the release of Horizon Call of the Mountain with our friends at Guerrilla, and we have more thrilling plans ahead. With our new studio, designed to create the best experiences for players in an inclusive and collaborative environment for our team, it feels like we’re just getting started, even after 10 years,” the team shared.
