PlayStation’s State of Play Event Unveils Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League Gameplay

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, the highly anticipated game, was showcased at the recent PlayStation State of Play event. Alongside the thrilling gameplay footage featuring our beloved characters, Rocksteady Studios confirmed that players will need a constant internet connection to enjoy the game, regardless of whether they choose to play solo or in co-op mode. As previously leaked, the title will incorporate live-service elements, including a battle pass, regular content updates, and a gear system. It’s worth noting that local co-op will not be supported, as stated in the developer’s FAQ page.

The 15-minute presentation of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League during the State of Play event commences with the corrupted Flash taunting our group of volatile supervillains – Captain Boomerang, Deadshot, Harley Quinn, and King Shark – to retrieve Lex Luthor, who is imprisoned inside a shipping container. Set in the deteriorated metropolis invaded by Brainiac, the game serves as an extension of Rocksteady’s Arkhamverse. Brainiac has manipulated certain members of the Justice League to execute his commands, turning these heroes against the very citizens they once vowed to safeguard. Among the affected heroes are Superman, Green Lantern, the aforementioned Flash, and Batman. It will be fascinating to see how the Dark Knight’s story unfolds, considering it has been five years since Batman: Arkham Knight, where Bruce Wayne’s true identity was revealed to the world.

Interestingly, Wonder Woman appears to be the sole Justice League member unaffected by Brainiac’s mind control and is shown collaborating with our Task Force X. Each playable character possesses unique firearms and abilities tailored to their personalities. For instance, Harley Quinn demonstrates her agility by cartwheeling on the grounds and traversing larger areas of the map using a grappling gun attached to a Bat-Drone. The Suicide Squad is briefly shown stealing equipment from a museum, with Captain Boomerang wielding his Speed Force Gauntlets. This gadget enables the Aussie supervillain to throw his boomerang to a specific point and then quickly move towards it, whether he is on the ground or mid-air. It’s important to clarify that he is not teleporting but rather moving at an extraordinary speed, imperceptible to the naked eye.

King Shark is described as a tank-based champion, capable of absorbing a substantial amount of damage and overpowering enemies by slamming them around and tearing them apart. He relies on ancient magic to dash through the air for traversal. On the other hand, Deadshot utilizes a jetpack to hover in the air and seamlessly switches between an arsenal of weapons, including sniper rifles, assault rifles, and pistols. The world of Metropolis is populated with various side characters who provide assistance to our misfit heroes. Penguin offers weapons, digital ghost Hack assists with neck bomb upgrades, and Gizmo contributes insane vehicle creations to the cause.

When it comes to firearms, players can choose from six types, with the possibility of acquiring unique villain-themed weapons called ‘Gear Sets’ as they progress through the game. These weapons have special effects that trigger distinctive status effects. Additionally, each character has a Gear Score, which increases as new gear is obtained, allowing players to tackle more challenging missions and customize their characters. It’s worth noting that cosmetic changes such as skins and outfits have no impact on gameplay and are purely aesthetic. Some of these customization options will be available in the battle pass, and Rocksteady has confirmed their plans to continuously support the game post-launch by introducing new playable characters, weapons, and missions.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League offers a 1-4 player co-op experience, but it is restricted to online co-op only. However, players seeking a solo experience can enjoy the game while the remaining squad members are controlled by AI. It is essential to maintain a stable internet connection throughout the gameplay, as indicated in the game’s FAQ page. Additionally, players have the freedom to switch between characters as long as they are not engaged in active missions.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is set to release on May 26, available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X platforms.
