Plea in Allahabad High Court against ‘Pran Pratishtha’ ceremony on Jan 22

A public interest litigation (PIL) petition has been filed before the Allahabad High Court seeking ban on the upcoming Pran Pratishtha Mahotsav (consecration ceremony) of the Ram Lalla idol at Ayodhya’s Ram temple which is slated to be held on January 22.

According to ANI, the plea has been filed by one Bhola Das, a resident of Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh.

The plea said that as per the Hindu calendar, no religious programs should be organized in the month of Paush.

Besides, the petitioner submitted that the temple is still under construction and the consecration of deity cannot happen since it would be inconsistent with the Sanatana tradition.

“A religious program is going to be organised in Ayodhya on January 22, 2024. The idol of Ram Lalla will be installed at the under-construction temple. The ceremony will be performed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Shankaracharyas have an objection to the Pran Pratistha programme…The temple is still incomplete…no deity can be consecrated,” the petition stated.

Additionally, it alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was orchestrating the event for political advantage in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
