Prepaid fiber internet subscriber base experiences strong growth, according to Globe

Globe Telecom aims to attract a minimum of 200,000 prepaid fiber subscribers this year in response to the growing demand for affordable internet connectivity amidst rising consumer prices.

Yesterday, the Ayala-led company introduced GFiber Prepaid, which offers low-cost unlimited fiber connection starting at just P299. In comparison, their postpaid plan starts at P1,699.

Raymond Policarpio, Vice President of Globe At Home brand management, explained that the telco is developing products like prepaid fiber to cater to all market segments.

“Given the demand for this prepaid fiber product, it’s clear that affordability and other obstacles must be addressed,” Policarpio said.

The pandemic has made Filipinos and people around the world more reliant on internet connectivity for hybrid work setups, remote learning, and e-commerce activities. Policarpio added, “The price points for prepaid are much cheaper compared to traditional postpaid plans, preventing a digital divide.”

The prepaid fiber product does not have a lock-in period and can be easily paid for using ‘buy now, pay later’ solutions like GCash.

Globe previously introduced sachet-sized prepaid fiber connectivity through WiFi hubs available in sari-sari stores and other community-based commercial spaces. This service enables users to access the internet for one hour with just P5 or 12 hours for P20. Subscribers can also pay P50 to P500 for connectivity that lasts three to 30 days.

Converge ICT Solutions Inc. also entered the prepaid market with its offering, “Surf2Sawa.” This allows consumers to enjoy unlimited fiber connectivity for as low as P50, which is valid for one day. Currently, Surf2Sawa has nearly 29,000 subscribers, and Converge aims to increase this number to 120,000 by the end of the year.
