Preview: Troy Baker’s Cannibalistic Gang Tracks Ellie and Joel in The Last of Us Episode 8 Trailer

The much-awaited trailer for episode 8 of The Last of Us has finally been released, and it promises an exciting continuation of the post-apocalyptic drama based on the popular PlayStation video game. HBO has once again delivered a preview that introduces a new group of survivors. However, it’s clear that they have hidden motives as they come to the aid of Ellie and Joel. This episode, titled “When We Are in Need,” features Troy Baker reprising his role as Joel. He portrays James, a senior member of the group. Directed by Ali Abbasi (Holy Spider), episode 8 has a runtime of 51 minutes. You can catch the premiere of The Last of Us episode 8 on March 6 at 8:30am IST on Disney+ Hotstar and March 5 at 9pm ET on HBO Max.

The trailer for episode 8 takes us back to the present, where Joel is struggling to recover from a near-fatal injury. David, the leader of the settlers, warns Ellie that the outside world is dangerous and offers her a place in their group. However, David’s group is not as it seems, hiding their cannibalistic nature behind a pious facade. Unaware of this, Ellie remains skeptical and declines the offer. Nevertheless, James insists that they should force Ellie to join their group due to the limited resources. In episode 6, our heroes encountered a strange group of survivors at the university, one of whom injured Joel. These survivors, it turns out, belong to David’s gang.

David now recognizes the potential that Ellie and Joel possess and believes they would make valuable additions to his group. He promises to protect Ellie from the others who want to kill her. The Last of Us episode 8 trailer also showcases Ellie’s hunting skills as she shoots down a deer, which she later trades with one of the survivors for necessary supplies. Additionally, the trailer raises the possibility of Anna, Ellie’s biological mother, making an appearance in this episode, portrayed by Ashley Johnson, who voiced and provided motion capture for Ellie in the video game.

Recent reports suggest that HBO content, including The Last of Us, Game of Thrones, and Euphoria, will no longer be available on Disney+ Hotstar in India due to restructuring plans. The streaming rights for HBO content are rumored to be acquired by Amazon Prime Video. In January, HBO announced the renewal of The Last of Us series for a second season, which will continue the story from the controversial sequel, The Last of Us Part II. Showrunner Craig Mazin hinted that season 2 might be split into two parts to accommodate the expansive narrative.

New episodes of The Last of Us are released every Monday on Disney+ Hotstar at 8:30am in India, and on Sunday at 9pm ET on HBO Max. The current season consists of nine episodes, with seven episodes already released.
