A PlayStation 5 prototype console has been listed for sale on Yahoo Auctions in Japan, providing a closer look at the v-shaped design seen on the console’s devkit.
According to an article on Wololo.net, the prototype console, known as “prototype 2,” was listed with a starting bid of JPY 800,000 (approximately $5,500). The auction recently ended, but it is unclear if the console was sold as access to Yahoo Auctions is currently restricted in the EEA and the United Kingdom.
This PlayStation 5 prototype console, showcased in the Yahoo Auctions listing, is even older than the previously revealed devkit that showcased the final design of the PS5. While the design is similar to the devkit, it features indicators such as Status 1/Status 2, On/Standby, Reset, Eject, System Init, Network Init, six USB ports, and an LED display. At the back, the prototype console includes a single HDMI port, two ethernet ports, and an additional USB port.
Although this PlayStation 5 console is most likely non-functional due to licensing restrictions, it holds significant value as a collector’s item. It is not uncommon to see similar units for sale, although they are typically expensive and rare. Regardless, these public listings offer a glimpse into the various prototype designs and how they differ from the final product.
