Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) announced on Monday that R Doraiswamy has been appointed as the managing director. Currently serving as the executive director at the central office in Mumbai, Doraiswamy will assume office on or after September 1, 2023, until August 31, 2026, or until further orders, according to a regulatory filing.
The appointment of Doraiswamy is the result of a recommendation by the Financial Services Institutions Bureau (FSIB), which is responsible for selecting directors of state-owned banks and financial institutions. The FSIB is led by Bhanu Pratap Sharma, former secretary of the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT). Other members of the headhunter include representatives from the Department of Financial Services, the Department of Public Enterprises, the IRDAI Chairman, and former managing directors of LIC and Oriental Insurance.
