Reddit’s search function is currently experiencing some issues

Reddit users are currently experiencing issues with the search feature, which has been malfunctioning for at least 12 hours. This has caused frustration among users who rely on the search function to find specific posts on the platform.

One user reported that performing a search while logged in does not yield any results. For example, when searching for “iPhone” in the r/Apple subreddit on Old Reddit, the user expected to see numerous posts about Apple’s smartphones. However, instead of relevant posts, they encountered a message stating that “there doesn’t seem to be anything here.” The issue persists even when using the Reddit app.

Despite the widespread search issues, certain functionalities within the search feature are still operational. For instance, when searching terms from reddit.com on Old Reddit, users can still see suggestions for joining relevant subreddits. Similarly, using the Home tab in the Reddit app on iOS allows users to view results for comments, communities, and people. Additionally, searching on Reddit while logged out displays individual posts in the results.

However, the current issues prevent logged-in users from searching for specific posts within subreddits. Many users have reported similar problems, with a post on r/help garnering over 30 comments within the past 12 hours. To overcome this issue, users can resort to conducting a Google site search for individual posts, as described by one user here.

As of now, Reddit has not provided a comment regarding the issue. However, the company acknowledged the problem on its status page at 5:14PM ET on July 17th, stating that they are currently investigating elevated search error rates.
