The highly anticipated launch of the Redmi 12 5G in India is scheduled for Tuesday, August 1, according to an announcement by Xiaomi’s sub-brand. Alongside the 5G variant, the Redmi 12 4G will also make its debut in the country. The 4G version was released in select markets last year. The Redmi 12 5G is expected to feature a larger display and a powerful 50-megapixel primary rear camera. The official Redmi India Twitter account revealed that the Redmi 12 5G will be launched on Tuesday, August 1. Redmi has already given a glimpse of the design and a few specifications of the smartphone through a dedicated landing page on its website. The device showcases a curved display with a centrally positioned hole punch cutout, and a stunning crystal glass design with a dual rear camera setup. It is said to offer the biggest display ever seen on a Redmi phone.
The Redmi 12 5G will reportedly be available in a Moonstone shade and will come with up to 8GB of RAM and a maximum of 256GB of onboard storage. Additionally, it will have the ability to expand the memory up to 16GB using the Virtual RAM feature. The device is confirmed to house a 50-megapixel primary camera and a powerful 5,000mAh battery.
There are speculations that the Redmi 12 5G could be a rebranded version of the Redmi Note 12R, which was recently unveiled in China. The Chinese variant is priced at CNY 999 (approximately Rs. 11,300) for the 6GB RAM + 128GB storage model. It features a robust Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 SoC and boasts a 6.79-inch full-HD+ IPS LCD display. The smartphone is equipped with a 5,000mAh battery that supports 18W wired fast charging.
In addition to the Redmi 12 5G, the Redmi 12 4G will also be launched simultaneously. The 4G variant will be offered in Jade Black, Moonstone Silver, and Pastel Blue color options. It will have up to 6GB of RAM and up to 128GB of onboard storage. The device will feature a 5,000mAh battery.
The Redmi 12 4G was initially launched in Europe with a starting price of EUR 199 (approximately Rs. 17,000) for the 4GB RAM + 128GB storage model. In Thailand, it was introduced at THB 5,299 (approximately Rs. 12,500) for the 8GB RAM + 128GB storage variant.
