Release of Hogwarts Legacy for PS4 and Xbox One Postponed to May 5

The release date for Hogwarts Legacy’s PS4 and Xbox One versions has been delayed once again. Avalanche Software, the studio behind the game, announced on Twitter that the open-world Harry Potter RPG for previous-gen consoles will now launch on May 5. This decision has been made in order to ensure the best possible gaming experience across all platforms. Originally, all versions of the game were supposed to be released on February 10, but they were first delayed to April 4 last year and now to May 5. There is no news yet about any further delays for the Nintendo Switch version, which is likely to still release on July 25.

Although Avalanche Software has not explicitly mentioned the reason for the additional month of development time, it can be assumed that it is being used for better optimization of the game on the outdated specs of the PS4 and Xbox One. Since its initial release, there have been numerous reports of microstutters and lighting glitches that occasionally cause Hogwarts Legacy to become either too dark or too bright on PC. It is highly likely that these performance issues have also been affecting the gameplay experience on the last-gen consoles during testing.

It is worth noting that the developers have decided not to abandon these versions of Hogwarts Legacy. This is particularly significant in light of the cancellation of previous-gen versions of another WB Games-published title, Gotham Knights, which occurred midway through its development.

In late February, WB Games announced that Hogwarts Legacy had sold 12 million copies within two weeks of its release on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X. This achievement makes it the biggest game launch for the company. On Twitch, Hogwarts Legacy has gained immense popularity, with peak concurrent player numbers reaching 1.28 million. It has become the top single-player game on the streaming platform. The impact of the game has been nothing short of surreal and has even been reflected on the Wizarding World website, the official destination for all Potterheads, which saw a 300 percent increase in traffic in early February, according to Warner Bros. Discovery. However, the developer has not announced any plans to take advantage of the hype by releasing additional downloadable content (DLC) yet, apart from patches, as they continue to work on the PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch versions.

Set in the 1800s, long before the time of the Chosen One, Hogwarts Legacy allows players to step into the shoes of a fifth-year witch or wizard who possesses the rare ability to see and tap into ancient magic. As you evade a hostile goblin, you must balance attending classes at the iconic magic-filled castle, exploring the dense Forbidden Forest, learning potion-making, and battling Dark wizards and dangerous creatures. Quidditch has been canceled for the year, as per the lore, but you can still take to the skies on broomsticks to explore the world.

The PS4 and Xbox One versions of Hogwarts Legacy are now scheduled to release on May 5, while the Switch version is still on track to launch on July 25.
