Report: Early August to Reveal Call of Duty 2023; Launch Planned for November 10

The highly anticipated 2023 edition of Call of Duty is rumored to make its debut in early August. According to Insider Gaming, Activision is planning to unveil the next installment in the popular shooter franchise on August 1, through an exciting in-game event. This unveiling method has been successfully used by the publisher in the past when they revealed Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and Vanguard within the original Warzone game. While there is limited information available regarding the official name and specific details of the upcoming game, previous reports indicate that Sledgehammer Games is leading the development, suggesting that it may not be Modern Warfare 3.

Last year, Activision made headlines by announcing that Call of Duty would deviate from its traditional annual release cycle in 2023, marking the first time in 20 years. Instead, the game would adopt an ‘always on’ live-service model. Initially, it was speculated that the shooter would receive a premium expansion to Call of Duty Modern Warfare II this year. This expansion would include a campaign DLC and a multiplayer ‘greatest hits map pack’ featuring beloved maps from previous entries. However, it appears that this content has now evolved into a standalone full-price title, acting as an extension that carries over maps and game modes from MW2. Insider Gaming has also disclosed some important dates for Call of Duty 2023, including beta sessions, early access to the campaign, and the launch date. It is important to note that these plans are subject to change.

According to leaked information, the untitled Call of Duty game is scheduled to have two beta weekends. The first weekend, exclusively for PlayStation players, will take place from October 6–10. The second weekend will be open to PC and Xbox players as well, running from October 12 to 16. Additionally, it is expected that there will be early access to the campaign, potentially offered as a pre-order bonus starting on November 2. As for the full launch of Call of Duty 2023, it seems to be targeting November 10 as the release date.

Activision is known for rotating between its three main developers, Infinity Ward, Treyarch, and Sledgehammer Games, for their annual Call of Duty releases. However, they broke this pattern last year by moving Treyarch’s planned game from 2023 to 2024. This change was followed by reports that the game would have a two-year life cycle, with new content being periodically released. This delay resulted in a gap that will be filled by the aforementioned extension to Call of Duty MW2.

Recently, Season 3 of the ongoing Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer began, introducing new operators, a new Gulag, and two premium maps: Black Gold and Pelayo’s Lighthouse. The latter map takes place on a stormy island with a central lighthouse, featuring various maintenance buildings, a boat dock, and a helipad. In February, Ranked Play was also added, offering game modes based on the rules set by Call of Duty League (CDL).
