Reportedly, Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon Set to Launch on August 25

Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon is set to release on August 25th, according to reports. Insider Gaming confirms that FromSoftware’s mech-crunching game will stick to its planned release window in 2023, with a potential reveal in June. The news follows the game receiving a 12+ age rating in South Korea for its portrayal of violence, including attacks and explosions with various weapons. Different regions will likely have their own ratings, but this update adds credibility to the reported summer 2023 release in the Global North.

At The Game Awards 2022, FromSoftware unveiled a cinematic trailer for Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon, and in an IGN interview, they confirmed that the game would depart from the studio’s traditional souls-like structure. Earlier rumors suggested a September-October release, but sources from Insider Gaming indicate a closer date. Armored Core is one of FromSoftware’s early franchises, featuring mecha robots battling for control of a mysterious energy source in a dystopian post-apocalyptic world. Players will pilot and customize their mechs with “3D manoeuvrability” for fast-paced missions involving ranged and melee combat.

While observing footage from previous games, it is evident that the camera controls and movement were often erratic and clunky. Therefore, it is hopeful that FromSoftware’s experience with titles like Dark Souls 3, Bloodborne, and Elden Ring will help revitalize the gameplay for modern platforms. President Hidetaka Miyazaki announced the development of Armored Core 6 back in September 2016, giving the team six years to work on it. Masaru Yamamura, the game designer for Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice (2019), serves as the director, while Miyazaki focuses on the Elden Ring DLC. Yamamura hinted at a posture-breaking mechanic, which involves inflicting significant damage but is not counter-attack or parry-oriented.

“Rather than calling it a counter mechanic, what we want to stress is this reason to continue attacking and to continue on the offensive,” Yamamura explained in an interview. “We want to create opportunities for the player to turn the battle to their advantage. This will result in a nice back-and-forth flow in battles in Armored Core VI, striking a balance between offensive and defensive play. We want the player to constantly pressure the enemy, which is why we incorporated some of these systems.”

Earlier this year, FromSoftware also announced Shadow of the Erdtree, a major expansion for Elden Ring currently in development for all platforms. They released a teaser image featuring dark scenery and a mysterious figure speculated to be Miquella, the brother of the Empyrean goddess Malenia, cursed to remain a child forever. The game recently received ray-tracing support as promised, although Nvidia and AMD graphics card users do not have upscaling options.

Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon will be available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X.
