Research Uncovers Indians’ Modern Take on Kindness in Dating and Relationships

Single Indians are taking it up a notch by redefining kindness in relationships

New study shows 54% of single Indians say they are redefining kindness by being more grateful and expressing gratitude followed by standing up for others (51%)

When it comes to dating and relationships, there has been a significant shift in how individuals perceive qualities that make someone desirable and attractive. It’s no longer just about superficial charm. Single Indians are taking a new approach by redefining kindness in their relationships. A recent survey conducted by Bumble revealed that 54% of Indian respondents are redefining kindness by embracing gratitude and expressing it openly. Additionally, 51% of respondents are showing kindness by standing up for others. Moreover, 44% of respondents are redefining kindness through the practice of empathy, by trying to see things from other people’s perspectives.

Unlike being nice, which entails basic politeness and pleasantness, kindness goes a step further and involves actions that benefit others. It encompasses qualities such as respect for vulnerability, empathy, and compassion.

What are the top qualities that Indians seek in a partner?

According to the survey, a majority of individuals (82%) prioritize honesty as the most important quality in a partner. Emotional availability (75%), empathy and compassion (60%), giving compliments (52%), and generosity (51%) are also highly valued by Indian singles.

In relation to the importance of kindness in relationships, Samarpita Samaddar, India Communications Director at Bumble, stated, “At Bumble, our mission is to cultivate connections based on kindness. Kindness goes beyond mere niceness or material gestures, and we are delighted to see that daters in India are redefining kindness in various ways. In fact, our latest study found that 32% of Indian respondents seek more than just the minimum kindness.”

Samaddar further added, “We believe that leading with kindness leads to more equitable and healthy relationships. So, the next time you’re on the app, prioritize kindness. You can also use Bumble’s Compliments feature to bring a smile to someone’s face, or simply keep honesty, empathy, and equality in mind. We hope you find the genuine and meaningful connection you deserve!”

Bumble’s latest campaign, titled “Kindness is Sexy,” featuring actor Aditya Roy Kapoor, comes at a time when Indian singles are placing greater emphasis on kindness when making dating decisions.
