Respawn Apologizes for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor PC Performance Issues

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor was released on April 28 for PC and current-gen consoles. However, the PC version received a significant amount of negative reviews on Steam on its launch day. Players complained about the game’s poor performance, specifically choppy framerates even in less-populated areas. Gadgets 360 can confirm these performance issues on PC. Although a day-one patch improved cutscene quality, Jedi Survivor still struggled to maintain a consistent 60 fps, even on the lowest settings. Recognizing these problems, developer Respawn Entertainment issued an apology and assured players that they would continue to monitor performance on all platforms and release patches accordingly. It’s worth noting that the PS5 and Xbox Series S/X versions also had performance issues, although not as severe as the PC version.

“We are aware that Star Wars Jedi: Survivor isn’t performing up to our standards for some PC players, especially those with high-end machines or specific configurations,” the tweet stated. “For instance, players using advanced, multi-threaded chipsets designed for Windows 11 experienced issues on Windows 10, or those with high-end GPUs paired with lower-performing CPUs experienced unexpected frame loss.” While the response includes an apology, it comes across as somewhat accusatory towards players’ configuration choices. This is compounded by the fact that the game was originally supposed to release on March 17 but was delayed by six weeks to ensure a polished launch.

Respawn Entertainment is now focusing on fixing the issues, but they caution that it will take time for “significant testing” to prevent new problems from arising. It is also curious how the developer blamed running Windows 10 on newer CPUs as the cause of the issue, as there doesn’t seem to be a significant downside to it. Additionally, a quick glance at Steam’s Hardware Survey page reveals that 73.95 percent of PC players still use Windows 10 as their primary operating system. There have also been reports that the game’s DRM has caused problems for PC players, locking them out of the game by mistakenly detecting multiple instances of the Star Wars Jedi: Survivor app running. Even the PS5 version suffers from lag and its HDR system severely affects image quality, rendering everything black.

A more recent example of a broken PC port is The Last of Us Part I, which also had a negative reception on Steam. The game experienced crashes, choppy framerates, and excessive VRAM usage. Since then, developer Naughty Dog has released numerous patches and hotfixes that have significantly improved performance. It remains to be seen how long it will take for Respawn to address these issues.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is available now on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X.
