Review of Morgan’s Redemption Song in Season 8 Episode 6 of Fear the Walking Dead

AMC’s Fear the Walking Dead wraps up its midseason break on a high note, leaving viewers with captivating cliffhangers and intriguing questions about the future of TWDU. In this midseason finale, titled “All I See Is Red,” Morgan Jones (Lennie James) takes center stage, delivering a stunning performance that should surely earn him an Emmy nomination.

The episode, directed by Michael Satrazemis and written by Andrew Chambliss and Ian B. Goldberg, strikes a perfect balance between offering closure and setting up future storylines. With just enough resolution to make the first half of Season 8 satisfying, it leaves us eagerly anticipating what’s to come in the remaining six episodes.

Lennie James’s portrayal of Morgan is exceptional, showcasing a version of the character who is determined to break free from the cycle of violence and death. His final breakthrough comes when he realizes that Mo will always be with him, even if not physically. This realization propels him to return home and find his other family, providing a heartfelt and satisfying conclusion to a character arc that began in the main series with his interactions with Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln).

Kim Dickens also deserves special recognition for her exceptional performance as Madison, the character who understands Morgan’s journey on a deep level. Their interactions resonate with a loving yet bittersweet intensity, and it feels fitting that James metaphorically passes the torch to Dickens in their final scenes together.

The episode also features a poignant moment between Dwight (Austin Amelio) and Sherry (Christine Evangelista) as they make the difficult decision to part ways. Their silent moments together, filled with memories of their shared past, carry a significant emotional weight and showcase the talent of Amelio and Evangelista.

In terms of the storyline, “All I See Is Red” delivers on expectations for a midseason finale. It provides both resolution and setup, with Morgan and Mo embarking on a journey to find Rick Grimes, while Madison and the other characters remain behind to reunite families. The coordinates introduced in the episode promise an intriguing plotline in the future, along with the anticipated return of Alicia (Alycia Debnam-Carey). The episode’s ending seems to be extending an olive branch to the original fans of the series, which is a smart move heading into the final run.

Overall, “All I See Is Red” achieves a strong 8.5/10 rating. The compelling performances, well-crafted storyline, and thoughtful character development make this midseason finale a must-watch for fans of Fear the Walking Dead.
