Temperature plays a vital role in the development and survival of Aedes mosquitoes. The optimal temperature range for their development is 25°C-30°C. Regardless of the rearing temperature of the larvae, the survival rate of adult mosquitoes is significantly higher at 20°C compared to other temperatures, according to a study published in PubMed in September 2023. Hence, I have directed the BBMP and Health Department officials in Bengaluru to pay more attention and bring dengue under control. The deputy director-level officers are being deployed to dengue hotspots in 10 districts. These officials will spend two days, starting from July 29, in the hotspots to ensure the proper implementation of dengue control measures. A dengue hotspot is identified when more than two positive cases are reported in an area,” the minister explained.

However, due to its presence in the neighbouring state of Kerala, caution needs to be exercised in areas bordering the state. “We have issued an advisory to those traveling from the state to Kerala to be careful.
Travel only if absolutely necessary,” he advised. The minister also mentioned the recent detection of the Zika virus in the state, stating that while it is not as dangerous as Nipah, precautionary measures will be followed by the health department to ensure public safety.
